Is it just me or is it getting crazier out there?

Is it just me or is it getting crazier out there?

I think it is fair to say that never has a film of this magnitude captured so many at an interesting time in an ever changing world.

The remarkably dark Joker film caught many hearts off guard with Joaquin Phoenix, who plays the irrepressible comic book Joker in this truly phenomenal film.

While the dark energy that exudes from this central character is well-placed to show the extremities of today’s modern world.

The film gives us a glowering, intense and often frightening character plummeting into a world of psychological despair, with his life getting crazier and crazier as the film goes on. As the Joker says in the film; ‘’the worst part of having a mental illness is people to expect you to behave as if you don’t.’’

This seems to apply to our world of big political characters with big personalities, for better or for worse, and a world which seems each day to be heading step-by-step into further chaos, Joker is certainly a film of its time.

The film portrays an unscary clown descending into a mire of psychological trouble, becoming scarier as he goes. He still seizes the day and takes advantage of Gotham’s dissatisfaction with the corrupt political and economic elites, leading protests of people dressed as clowns and creating chaos and division.

This might all sound very familiar in the real world, but I won’t name any names. There are scenes which could be lifted straight from Parliament Square or Hong Kong or Charlottesville.

It is truly a dark dive into darker moments of our modern day society, pulling back the curtain on our psychological demons, showing us a truthful reflection of our own crazy world.

To paraphrase the man himself in the film, ‘’I used to think the modern politics was a tragedy, but now I realise it’s a comedy.’’
