Spotify Wrapped. The Brutal Annual Performance Review We Can’t Argue With and what it says about us?
Every December, Spotify Wrapped sneaks into our phones and exposes the truth. Turn down the noise.
Turn up the ambition and absolutely crank the tracks that move you.
Now tell the truth did your Spotify “Wrapped”expose you?
We are not nearly as cool or sophisticated as we highlight here on LinkedIn. One minute you’re posting about “geopolitical risk….”
The next, Wrapped is proudly announcing you listened to the album ABBA Gold 97 times in one week!
Yes!!
But beneath the humiliation, there’s wisdom. I believe Spotify Wrapped is a masterclass in life and brand strategy.
In my case my “Top Track” isn’t what I wish to listened to, it’s what I actually played on repeat while pretending to focus on emails.
Reality always beats reputation.
The nosy algorithm is watching how you behave not what you say.
You can claim to be “exploring new horizons.”
If Wrapped says your Year was 98% George Benson, you are back in a nostalgia loop, my friend.
What really gets me is the much ignored skip button is which is very underrated.
We cling to bad content, bad projects, bad relationships But in Spotify land and life skip early, skip often, skip unapologetically.
Wrapped measures how many new artists you found.
Imagine if we measured, risks taken, opinions challenged, comfort zones demolished
Try new. Break scripts. Shock the algorithm.
The weird track is the truth Wrapped reveals who you are at 2:41am.
And no, you can’t blame “the kids.”
You control the playlist so stop blaming the DJ
If your year felt very dull, don’t wait for someone else to drop a beat. Switch and change tempo.
Reflect and listen to an album launched last weekend, 60 years ago by The Beatles called “Rubber Soul” or upgrade to another band now.
Thank you Spotify
