We all woke up on Sunday morning rubbing our eyes and asking. Did we hear the news correctly or was it a dream that someone tried to kill Donald Trump?
I bolted upright and read it again, “a bullet grazed Donald’s ear.” Some might say it is his most unused organ in his body!
Like it or not, the Trump attempted assassination would have turned him into a martyr with the global financial markets free falling.
There is no telling what his death could have caused, perhaps possible greater unrest and civil upheaval across America.
Having John F. Kennedy and his brother Robert as heroes of mine, it is truly reprehensible an attempted assassination would have profound reverberations for US democracy and beyond.
What I found most disturbing with the news and scenes was within minutes of getting to his feet Trump was yelling “fight, fight, fight” to the cheering crowd.
The iconic photo of him pumping his fist against the backdrop of the U.S. flag fluttering in the breeze will be the photo that will be central to his presidential campaign.
Is it just me thinking or is America living on a prayer at this point?
Stand by for the next chapter as in the coming hours, we will be told who is Trumps running mate. There are two choices, either Ohio senator JD Vance, or the other candidate Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina. Both are reported to have said about Democrats’ “inflammatory rhetoric puts lives at risk”.
Tim Scott has said the Democratic campaign’s rhetoric “led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination”.
Next to jump on the media bandwagon is Elon Musk. Musk’s site, X, has posted now saying : “Either extreme incompetence or it was deliberate,”.
The biggest question is how will Trump maximise the attack in the next 24/48 hours, as the former President Donald Trump will officially become the GOP nominee for President at this week’s Republican National Convention, days after surviving an assassination attempt.
